Our program of cultural, sporting and service activities will connect you to new friends while keeping your mind, body and soul active and inspired.

Duchesne College is part of the Inter-College Council cultural and sporting competitions. No other university campus in Australia has a competition quite like this!

Under the cultural program, you can take part in:

  • College Idol
  • Debating
  • Chess
  • Bandfest
  • Art Show
  • Choralfest
  • Oratory
  • One Act Play
  • Dancefest.

And the great thing is that you don’t have to be an expert in any of these things to take part – you’re encouraged to stretch beyond your comfort zone and give things a go! There’s always a wonderful cheer squad at all of our events too bringing the blazing blue spirit to support our girls.

The Inter-College sporting program pitches Duchesne competitors against women residing in eight other colleges within The University of Queensland. The competition is fun and fierce and it’s always exciting to watch the tally board across the year.

There are 15 different sports to choose from:

  • swimming
  • tennis
  • badminton
  • table tennis
  • cross country
  • water polo
  • netball
  • rowing
  • hockey
  • volleyball
  • AFL
  • touch football
  • soccer
  • basketball
  • athletics.

Our service program is a wonderful part of College life and reflects our Sacred Heart values – that’s why we encourage all of our residents and members to take part. Each year, the Service Convenor works with various committees and College staff to establish a program of social justice and community activities and in 2021, Sustainability Committee was established to address ethical, social, environmental, cultural and economic issues.

Service activities often include:

  • Clean Up Australia Day
  • Earth Hour
  • Inter-College ‘Do It In The Dark’ Competition
  • Dawn Service for ANZAC Day
  • Live Below the Line
  • 40-Hour Famine
  • Do It In A Dress
  • Daffodil Day
  • Packing birthing kits for the Zonta women’s group
  • Coordinating fundraisers for charities including Drought Angels, St Vincent De Paul and RSPCA.
