We warmly invite our community to join us for a special night of opera and musical performances.

Opera By The Lake is being presented by Duchesne College in conjunction with UQ’s Bloom Festival, the UQ School of Music and the incredible director and artist Tarita Botsman, and will feature The 7 Sopranos and a star-studded line up of Duchesne College performers.

Performance Program 

5.30pm – 6.30pm  Pre-show entertainment by Duchesne College Performers

7.00pm – 9.00pm  The 7 Sopranos will present a selection of popular classical operatic arias and ensembles, along with classic songs, musical theatre and arrangements of contemporary pieces. Eminent local opera singer, baritone and Head of Voice at UQ’s School of Music Shaun Brown will also make a special appearance.

A full program will be provided to ticket holders.

Food & Beverage 

BYO alcohol – please use plastic cups and recycle your bottles and cans in our “Containers For Change” bins onsite.

A selection of food and soft drinks will be available for purchase on the night:

Sweet Soprano Box:  1 mini muffin, 1 cookie with strawberries – $5

Sassy Savoury Box: half a sandwich, 2 pieces of sushi and 1 rice paper roll – $9

Concert Cheese & Antipasto Box – $13

Parking 

The University of Queensland is serviced directly by Brisbane City Council (BCC) Buses from across the city, as well as the CityCat service via the Brisbane River. The College is located just a four-minute walk from the UQ Lakes Bus station, seven minutes from the UQ Ferry Terminal, and ten minutes from UQ Chancellor’s Place Bus Stop. Service and timetable information There is also public parking on Sir William Macgregor Drive, directly behind the College and parking is also available on the UQ Campus.

Wet Weather

In the unlikely event we experience light rain, the event will proceed. Should the weather be inclement, we will contact all ticket holders before the event to advise of the new venue – the event will proceed on the same day at the same time.

COVID-Safe Event 

Opera By The Lake is a COVID-19 safe event and will operate in line with Queensland Government guidelines. Please use the Queensland Government check-in app upon arrival and wear a mask if you are unable to socially distance. Please do not attend the event if you:​

are unwell (e.g. if you have any symptoms at all)

have been tested for COVID-19 and you’re awaiting results

are required to isolate or quarantine per Queensland Government directions

have been in close contact with someone who is unwell.
